In collaborative practice, we have to manage the legal, financial and deeply emotional aspects of separation in order to help our clients reach an agreement that deals with what matters, and what works.
Our clients are often strongly defensive and feel challenged in ways that threaten their very identities. Their behaviour can seem demanding and “unreasonable”. When we try to help them see things from a different perspective, or use active listening to acknowledge their strong feelings, it is sometimes not enough to calm the conflict. What the heck is going on and how can we help?!
In this 1.5 hour* workshop you will be introduced to the Insight Approach to Conflict and learn how curiosity enhances our ability to defuse conflict, and encourages our clients to discover and focus on what matters.
Presenter: Jacinta Gallant is a respected Canadian collaborative lawyer, conflict trainer and innovator. Recognized internationally for her insightful and experiential approach to teaching and managing conflict, Jacinta has been welcomed as a trainer throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, Australia and Southeast Asia.
Jacinta’s law practice Waterstone Law Group focuses on out-of-court settlement, including mediation, collaborative practice and negotiation. Her innovative Our Family in Two Homes resources helps clients prepare to engage deeply, and productively, in our collaborative process.
Jacinta has studied the Insight Approach to Conflict under the founder, Dr. Cheryl Picard, and has been applying it as a practitioner and trainer for more than 5 years. The approach has changed her way of working, and living and Jacinta is happy to introduce “Insight” to our Canadian collaborative professionals.
